Regarding
tourism development,
Phu Quoc island has 347 projects with
total registered investment capital of more than VND100,000
billion, covering an area of over 14,300 hectares.
Around 14 projects of them have been licensed with the aim
of building guest houses and entertainment sites. Detailed
planning work on other functional sections has also been
made.

Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung on January 27 made the
statement when he and the government mission inspected the
socio-economic development situation on Phu Quoc island
of Vietnam and the planning work relating to investment in
construction and development projects in line with
government decree No 178.
At the working session, Kien Giang leaders reported on the
province's socio-economic development and investment
activities on the island. According to their report, the
province's socio-economic situation remains stable.
The province's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by
20.55 percent - the highest figure since 2000 and per capita
annual income reached VND14.8 million. For the first time,
tourism and services accounted for 47 percent of GDP.
In 2007, the island began building two major transport
projects with total investment capital of more than VND300
billion including An Thoi international port and 12.5 km of
concrete road between Duong Dong and Cua Can. In addition,
the VND5,000 billion project to build the Duong To
international airport will get underway in the third quarter
of this year.
Deputy PM Hung also highlighted achievements made by the
local party committee, and people in boosting socio-economic
development and maintaining political security. To turn the
island into a high quality eco-tourism site in the future,
deputy PM Hung called on relevant ministries to ensure the
sustainability of tourism and transport infrastructure
development projects.
