Australia's low cost carrier Jetstar on Tuesday announced it will launch a new
Sydney - Darwin - Ho Chi Minh City international route starting September 2, 2008.
According to the new schedule, Jetstar will replace its three direct
Sydney - HCMC flights per week with five Sydney-HCMC via Darwin flights per week on the Airbus A320 service.
The route will maintain the carrier's existing Sydney-HCMC market, while incorporating the city of Darwin as a northern hub for international flight services.
Low fares are now on sale at www.jetstar.com, starting from US$258 one-way plus taxes for a JetSaver Light fare between HCMC-Sydney and from $98 plus taxes one-way between HCMC-Darwin.
Starting September 2, Jetstar will also operate multiple direct domestic services each week into Darwin from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, and 19 weekly international return services from Darwin to the Southeast Asian ports of Singapore and HCMC.
Darwin is Australia's closest major city to
Vietnam.
By using this city as a northern hub, passengers can connect directly to either Sydney or Melbourne where a large number of overseas Vietnamese reside.
