Halong tourism in 1990s
Pictures of Ha Long, Bai Chay area taken in 1991 by a German
photographer help us better understand the history of this place.
After two ferries (Binh and Rung), the land of Hai Phong was reached. The German
photographer visited Quang Ninh in the summer of 1991. At that time, Ha Long
City was not born so the center of the province is Hong Gai township.
Bai Chay was one of the most famous beaches in the North at that time, due to
its beautiful natural scenery and clear blue sea water. In the 90s, from Bai
Chay to Hon Gai one also had to go by ferry for almost 30 minutes.
At that time, the tourism service was just as simple as in this photo, many
state organizations sent employees and workers to Bai Chay for holiday every
year.
Services at the beach include renting of lifebuoys, swimming suits, photography,
fresh water.
In the Bao Cap era (State subsidy), posing for a photo on the beach with a
lifebuoy was a popular style.
In 1991, Bai Chay area was still a petroleum port B12, with many large vessels
anchored directly on the bay.
Halong bay tour in the 90's did not include meals on board and overnight stay on
the bay.
Small wooden boats only took tourists on a stroll around the bay.
Visitors used to come to Dau Go cave,
Sung Sot cave and returned, the trip
usually lasted in a morning or afternoon.
Ha Long Bay has 1969 large and small islands, of which about 40 are inhabited.
Fishing boats anchored near Bai Chay.
Bai Chay port in 1991, cruise ships and fishing vessels has the same dock.
The boats sailed on the bay for 2-3 hours.
The life of the fishermen on the bay in the 90s, each boat was occupied by a
small family, including parents and 2-3 children.
People lived by fishing, collecting coral and selled to tourists.
Until 1994, Halong Bay was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage,
with strict regulations on nature conservation, environment and landscape.
A coral reef picked up from the bottom of the bay.
Children lived on water when they were very young, rowing boat and helped
parents sell coral and seafood to tourists.
According to photographer Reisen, Ha Long Bay is a way that nature 'puzzles'
humans about geological tectonics.
That helped motivate a photographer like him to come, discover and take photos
in many places around the world.
